I Hug My iPhone Goodnight
During the pandemic we have a new kind of reliance upon communication technologies and find ourselves touching screens more than we do our loved ones. As we traverse into these new forms of expressing love within a digital sphere, it’s hard not to form a tangible intimacy with the devices we utilize. Although these technologies are merely vessels to reach our loved ones, there becomes a heightened ambiguity between natural and artificial physicality. Technology's influence on the way we visualize and understand reality calls for a reconstruction of identity within oneself as the boundaries between human and machine start to break down. This series works with generative neural networks to explore a suspended sense of self that is evoked with online escapism and disassociation. The expressive use of color, soft gestures, and digitally textural elements convey the expansive emotions that come with the beauty and tribulations of digitally navigating the absence of physical touch in isolation.
